Welcome to the lab page of the Brewer/Raghuraman lab. We use genomic tools and the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to investigate the regulation of eukaryotic chromosomal DNA replication--how cells choose which origins of replication to use, how they decide when in S phase to fire those origins, and how cells respond to replication stress.
A second, related area of interest is in the evolution of the replication program: How do origins evolve? How does selection act on replication when no single origin is essential for viability? How does the organization of the genome for replication influence the architecture of the genome, and vice versa? To explore such questions, we have begun to explore replication and genome structure in related yeasts, beginning with Lachancea waltii (the yeast previously known as Kluyveromyces waltii).
Oh, and we enjoy cooking. We love good food. A lot.
